The primary objective of the XL Club is to take cricket to schools with high-class players being an example to youth both in standards of play and general behaviour. This we are able to do for the first half of the season, for the second half we play mainly against club sides during cricket weeks. In earlier days former county and minor county players were the basis of most sides. Today membership is concentrated in those who have played 1st XI club cricket. Age is no obstacle to ability.
As a wandering club, the Forty Club does not own a ground, but enjoys a membership of around 4000 nationwide plus a growing number overseas. Under a central administration, the UK is divided into 12 Districts each with its own Chairman responsible for matches in his area and for social activities to bring members together.
Club members may apply for any match that the Club plays in, not just those within a member's own district. Just contact (as early as possible) the respective Match Manager who's details will be found in the fixture card issued annually to members.
Foreign Tours, an Inter District competition (the only domestic 'competitive' cricket on offer), and a Triangular Tournament with the Dutch and Danish are held each year - check out the pages on the main XL site and the various links for further information.
If you would like to join us and live in the area, all the details can be found at the Forty Club's main website
http://www.thefortyclub.co.uk
where all information regarding the club's activites can also be found.
